What a Bromine Bank Does
A bromine bank is a reserve of bromide in spa water. It provides the foundation for creating active bromine sanitizer, which helps control bacteria and other contaminants. Products such as Leisure Time Reserve are designed to establish this reserve when setting up or refreshing a bromine-treated spa. The reserve itself is not a substitute for sanitizer: water still needs regular testing and an appropriate level of active bromine.
Starting the Reserve
Begin by checking your spa’s care instructions and the product label. Confirm that the water volume is known, since dosing depends on the amount of water in the tub. Add the recommended amount of Reserve to freshly filled water, following the label’s directions for application and circulation. Run the pump as instructed so the product disperses evenly.
Once the bromide reserve has been established, use the sanitizer system recommended for your spa and bromine products. An oxidizer, such as a compatible shock treatment, helps convert bromide into active bromine. Follow product directions closely, and never mix concentrated chemicals together. Add each product separately to the water as directed.
Keeping Bromine Levels Reliable
Test the water regularly with a suitable spa test kit or strips. Check active bromine, pH, and other relevant water-balance readings, then make gradual adjustments according to the test results and product labels. After heavy use, or when the water becomes cloudy or develops an odor, test again and follow your care plan before using the spa.
When to Refresh or Seek Advice
Draining and refilling removes the bromide reserve, so establish it again after a water change. If readings remain inconsistent despite correct dosing, review the spa volume, testing method, circulation, and chemical compatibility. Consult the product manufacturer or a qualified spa-care professional when uncertain. Consistent testing and measured treatment help keep bromine sanitation dependable without adding more chemicals than necessary.
